From the 1960s to early 1970s, this necklace is made of very large hand carved bone beads and wood (possibly teak). The large round dark brown beads are grooved. The necklace has many smaller round and disk filler bone beads and a nice brass coloured screw style latch. We also have a debate as to whether the carved large round beads are ivory. Ivory wins out by 6 to 1, however we will not guarantee that they are indeed ivory, nor can we completely verify the type of wood. We can however verify this is truly a stunning piece and is sure to make a statement.
The large beads are 1" to 1 1/2" wide. The necklace is approximately 22 " long and because of the size of the beads, it is a very weighty piece. The necklace is in excellent condition and is very clean.
We should mention that necklaces like this are very collectible as they are not being imported anymore. Large carved bone and ivory items have been restricted from importation here in the US, making these vintage necklaces highly sought after.
